Gravesend Borough Market held the first Great Get Together Lunch on Saturday 17 June in memory of Jo Cox, MP for Batley and Spen, who was tragically killed last year. Invites were sent out on social media and word of mouth calling on the community to meet for lunch, to bring food and share conversation.
“We have more in common than that which divides us”
Tens of people attended the Market bringing food and their company, sharing laughter and chatting whilst listening to music from the Fusion Festival. One visitor to Gravesend Borough Market said there was “So much love under one roof (at the market during community lunch) – fabulous feeling”
Andy Singh donated all the proceeds from the sales of his Indian food stall selling his famous samosas. Many visitors and traders in the market also donated generously and over £1500 was raised for the victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
